AWS Activate is a global program, and Nigerian startups are fully eligible. Through ROSTAN Technologies — an AWS Activate Provider — qualifying Nigerian startups can access the Portfolio tier of AWS Activate, worth up to $200,000 in credits, rather than the smaller self-apply Founders tier. We prepare and submit the application, help you set up your AWS account, and review your initial architecture so the credits go further.
Support is delivered remotely by our AWS team in India, working to West Africa Time business hours. AWS does not yet operate a Region inside Nigeria, so we help you choose the best nearby Region for your workload — typically Cape Town or a European Region, depending on where your users are.
AWS does not currently operate a Region physically located in Nigeria. Nigerian startups typically run workloads from the AWS Africa (Cape Town) Region (af-south-1) for African-continent proximity, or a European Region (Ireland, eu-west-1, or Paris, eu-west-3) depending on where most of their users are — we help you choose based on your actual traffic.
Cape Town (af-south-1) keeps you on the African continent; European Regions may suit better if your users are mostly diaspora or international.
We factor in Nigeria's Data Protection Act (NDPA), 2023 when recommending where to host and how to handle personal data.
