Oracle E-Business Suite: Upgrades, Customizations and Migration

Oracle EBS is not on a deadline — Premier Support for 12.2 runs to at least 2037. That turns the question from "how fast do we escape?" into "upgrade and optimise, or migrate, and on what terms?" This is that decision, from the delivery side.

Overview

The most important fact about Oracle E-Business Suite in 2026 is that it is not going away. Oracle has committed Premier Support for EBS 12.2 through at least 2037, so the panic-driven "get off EBS now" narrative simply does not hold. The real work is deciding, deliberately, whether to keep upgrading and optimising your EBS estate or to migrate to Oracle Fusion Cloud or OCI — and when.

Either path runs through the same two things: your customizations and your integrations. A heavily modified estate with fragile, in-place customizations and file-based integrations is expensive to upgrade and risky to migrate. The same estate, with upgrade-safe personalizations and governed services, is straightforward to do either. That is why a CEMLI inventory and an integration review come before any roadmap decision.

The articles below cover the whole EBS lifecycle: how long 12.2 is really supported, the 12.1-to-12.2 upgrade, online patching with ADOP, managing customizations, integrating EBS properly, natural-language query on EBS, and the migration paths to Fusion Cloud.

Frequently asked questions

Is Oracle EBS still supported?
Yes. Oracle has committed Premier Support for E-Business Suite 12.2 through at least 2037. EBS 12.2 is not at end of life, and there is no forced deadline to leave it — which means the decision to upgrade or migrate can be made on business terms rather than under pressure.
Should I upgrade Oracle EBS or migrate to Fusion Cloud?
It depends on your business drivers, the state of your customizations and your appetite for the always-current cloud model. Because EBS 12.2 is supported to at least 2037, staying and optimising is a legitimate choice, not just a delay. The right answer comes from assessing your CEMLI estate, integrations and process needs — not from a vendor deadline.
What is the difference between Oracle EBS 12.1 and 12.2?
EBS 12.2 introduced online patching (ADOP) using an edition-based dual-filesystem architecture, allowing patches to be applied while the system stays available, along with a longer support horizon and technology-stack updates. Moving from 12.1 to 12.2 is an upgrade project in its own right — see the 12.1-to-12.2 upgrade guide below.
Do I have to move off Oracle EBS?
No. With Premier Support for 12.2 running to at least 2037, you can continue to run and enhance EBS for years. Many enterprises choose to modernise around it — APEX front-ends, better integrations, analytics — rather than replace it, and migrate only when there is a clear business case.
How do I make Oracle EBS upgrades predictable?
Keep customizations upgrade-safe (prefer personalization over in-place modification), maintain a CEMLI register so nothing is a surprise, use supported integration paths such as the Integrated SOA Gateway rather than direct table access, and retire customizations that no longer serve a process. These practices are what separate a weeks-long upgrade from a quarters-long one.
